Ward Party?

Not anymore. The canyon has been closed so we are not having the ward party tonight. Please do not go up the canyon to go to our non-existent ward party. I'm not sure if they are going to reschedule, but I will post it if they do!

Service?

"I really want to do some service, and I heard that you can crochet leper bandages. I have yarn, I can kind of crochet...I just need the requirement sizes, the kind of stitch, and where I would send it to when I'm done." -Megan Lavin.

Does anyone know anything about this service?

If anyone is interested in doing some service, this is a great opportunity!

Weekend joy!

As I was walking to the BYU football game on Saturday I saw something on the ground. It was like it was placed there just for me to find, so I could give it Megan Lavin! Yes, I found another Glowspin calendar!!!  I will try to drop it off at your house, or bring it to church next week.

Visiting Teaching!

"We have a challenge to ask all of the girl's we visit teach to go do iniatories. We feel that this matches the theme of the talk this month: Gender Is an Essential Characteristic of Eternal Identity and Purpose and will help the girls really feel and get in touch with their Eternal Identity and Purpose. This is a great way to help you fulfill your calling for the visiting teachers, and this is a great way to get your once a month temple visit in...so all in all it will bless your life and help you with the 100% for 100 days." -Megan Lavin.

Also, there is an enrichment activity tomorrow at the church in the gym. Even if you didn't order something, still show up because from what I hear, we are making cute magnets, and there should be enough for everyone!

Try to get your visiting teaching done, the month is already half over!

2 in One

This will be a 2 in One post.

Make sure to go to tucanos.com/club_tucanos.html and sign up for a free meal during your birthday month. Of course you have to buy one meal to get a free one, but you can go during lunch and it's even less expensive! Yay for birthdays! Also Disney is doing the same thing next year. You can go to a disney park and get in for free on your birthday!

We are going to do an activity of tying baby blankets for the ward. It is a great service that we would love everyone to be involved with!

Good luck.

I got three glowspin calendars today. I'm sorry I couldn't get more. I would love for everyone to be able to have one of these calendars. If you email this guy tyler@glowspin.com he might be able to help you. He is the one who helped me get a couple of calendars. Make sure to leave your name and address so he can get some to you.

I will try to post about wonderful little freebies as soon as I hear them. If anyone knows of any, please let me know.

EXTRA CALENDARS

(Not the actual pearls, but they look like this)
I received an email from the man in charge of the glowspin calendars! He told me he could bring me a couple of calendars... I'm not sure how many he intends on sending my way, but I already have 2 people who have told me they wanted them. If you did not get one and would like one, please let me know (leave a comment on this blog). I will pass them out first come first serve.

FREE PEARLS! That's right, FREE!

Hello sisters!

A couple of days ago as my husband and I got home we found a little coupon calendar book on our porch. Usually I flip through them and throw them away, but this time we found something that caught our  attention. FREE PEARLS! Absolutely free! This is seriously not a joke! If you got the GLOWSPIN calendar take a closer look!

For those skeptics out there, this is the real deal. I went in there myself and got a FREE strand of pearls. I asked them what was up with the free pearls and they told me it was to get the town to know GOLDSMITH Co. better. It's just a fantastic advertisement idea!

So here you go! If you like free things, that are super nice, and you have the GLOWSPIN calendar, go to Goldsmith and get a free strand of pearls!!

Activity?

Hello everyone! The compassionate service committee and our enrichment committee are coordinating an activity. The date is soon to be announced!

We have a bunch of fabric for baby blankets that was left over from an activity we had last year. We will tie the ends of the blankets and give them to the women when they have a baby. They are such a great gift!

Does anyone have any other ideas for service activities? (To help the girls in our relief society) Please post your ideas in the form of a comment on this blog.

We love you and are so excited to get to know those of you who are new!

Oops.

I apologize for how long it has taken to post something new! I accidentally forgot the password... My bad! Anyways... It's another new (almost over) month, time for visiting teaching if you haven't already done it.
I want to wish everyone who is going to school good luck with this semester. I want to wish everyone who is working, good luck with your job, and I want to wish everyone who is raising kids good luck as well.
If anyone needs anything, (babysitter, a ride, or something else) please post a comment here, or text, call, or email Shannon Langager, Robin Thurgood, or Gisel Lance.
I hope you are all doing well in everything you are doing. Remember 100% for 100 days is going on this fall. (I'll post a picture of the bookmark later today, so check back.)

Thank you!

We want to thank all who have helped with dinners in the past couple of months. It is sometimes difficult to get everything set up and we are hoping that over time it will become easier! It is such a blessing to have so many sisters willing to help out.
Please let any of us know if you are in need of anything. We are here to help!

New!!!

It is that time of year again. The time when couples are moving in and out of our ward like crazy. The beginning of fall semester and hopefully the beginning to great friendships.
If you notice someone moving in (or out) near you, take a plate of cookies, or offer to help them move in. They too are children of our Heavenly Father, and he wants us to serve one another.

*Remember to do your visiting teaching this month. (Try to get it done early in the month!)

Mud Pie!

Since the weather is becoming a little bit unbearable (for me at least), I figured it would be a great time to let you all in on this recipe!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cup hot fudge topping
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease a pie plate well.
  2. Combine sugar and butter or margarine in a mixing bowl. Blend in vanilla, salt, and beaten eggs. Stir in flour and cocoa . Stir in nuts. Pour mixture into pan.
  3. Bake 25 minutes, or until toothpick inserted halfway between center and edge comes out clean. Immediately prick holes in pie; spread fudge sauce over top. Cool.
  4. Beat cold whipping cream and confectioners' sugar in a chilled bowl until peaks form; spread over fudge sauce. Drizzle pie with additional fudge sauce. Refrigerate.

Visiting Teaching

It's the beginning of a new month and we all know what that means, starting our visiting teaching! It's not that hard and everyone in the ward is super nice! This months message is on "Each Sister is a Beloved Daughter of Heavenly Parents and has a Divine Destiny." I am going to leave a few of my favorite quotes from my reading.
There was a question asking "What does it mean to be a beloved daughter of heavenly parents?" President James E. Faust (1920-2007) said, "A conviction that you are a daughter of God gives you a feeling of comfort in your self-worth. It means that you can find strength in the balm of Christ. It will help you meet the heartaches and challenges with faith and serenity."
President Spenser W. Kimball (1895-1985) said, "All of you need to drink in deeply the gospel truths about the eternal nature of your individual identity and the uniqueness of your personality."
If you haven't read the entire message, I recommend that you do.

I think that if we can get to know each other better, visiting teaching will be something you enjoy doing, instead of just another thing to get checked off on a list.

A call to action....

Yay! I am so excited people are actually checking out the blog! I myself am a big fan of blogging. I think it's fantastic, and really fun to look at other blogs and get to know people through their words!
I want to let you all know why we decided to start a blog. Our ward, in my opinion, is not the most outgoing ward. Once you get to know someone you realize how friendly they really are, but until you do, they are just someone in the ward that you don't know. We want that to change.
In the July Ensign of this year there is an article called, "Sharing the Gospel Using the Internet." When I first saw the cover of the Ensign I was a little bit shocked and excited. Our church is great! "You have a great opportunity to be a powerful force for good in the Church and in the world." -Elder M. Russell Ballard. I thought that was amazing, we have so many wonderful things. The internet, electricity, television, cell phones, etc... They are so accessible and so useful that it is a shame people use them for such dirty and harmful things. I am so grateful that the Church understands that technology can be used for great things, such as spreading the gospel.
This blog is to help us get involved with one another. A lot of us have blogs and this can be used as a gateway to get to know other girls. I think each of us will find that we have more in common with these girls than we think. So please, try to get to know one another. A phone call, a plate of cookies, fruit, or even a simple card can be another gateway to getting to know one another.

(If you need any help, babysitting, dinners, someone to talk to, please call and let us know. That is what we are here for, please don't let us get bored. There are so many girls in the ward willing and wanting to help!)

Chocolate cake!

I am in love with chocolate (as most women are) and found this fantastic recipe for a chocolate cake! I should probably find something a little more healthy, but I just can't bring myself to doing that quite yet... Maybe next post. Here is the recipe for the chocolate cake:
  • 1 (18.25 ounce) package devil's food cake mix
  • 1 (5.9 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the cake and pudding mixes, sour cream, oil, beaten eggs and water. Stir in the chocolate chips and pour batter into a well greased 12 cup bundt pan.
  3. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, or until top is springy to the touch and a wooden toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool cake thoroughly in pan at least an hour and a half before inverting onto a plate If desired, dust the cake with powdered sugar.
For best results try to take a piece to another girl in the relief society!
